Aspen Angel

My Daughter Aspen was born with the most beautiful china doll profile, so I have always wanted to paint it. I love Harlequin patterns, and soft olde world looking textures, so I incorporated them into this painting, along with the jewels and embroidery on her clothing and wings. The idea for the piece originated with a trip to the Prado Museum in Madrid Spain, where I had the privilege of seeing the beautiful alter piece collection. I was originally going to incorporate gold leafing into the background, but when I had gotten this far on the painting I realized it was finished and adding the gold would be too much. One thing I have learned is that a good artist knows when a work is complete.
